Beans taste overly roasted/burnt. It is a dark roast that needs to be brewed with colder water to avoid tasting like charcoal. Lacks all of the floral notes that were exciting about this bean. Would not recommend unless you enjoy very dark charcoal notes.
Ordered four bags and this was easily the best one. Complex, lots of different stuff going on in the cup, makes you feel like you're drinking top of the line coffee.
I saw BATW's ad on my Facebook ads and I was intrigued by their selection of beans. I purchased 5 pounds of Santa Clara based on the 5 star reviews that these beans received and that Guatemala is one of my favorite Single Regions. When I opened my bag it did not smell fresh despite being roasted on Oct 6th apparently. I also found the beans bitter.
I feel that these beans are quite off the mark as I am quite familiar with this region and these tasting notes. I use a Moccamaster, filtered and measured water and I weigh my beans, therefore I am confident with my technique. Also Their bag states a recipe of 2 tablespoonsfuls ground coffee/180 ml of water, which is a lot of coffee! I used way less and found the taste bitter as described as above. I can't imagine how disgusting this would've tasted if I followed their recipe.
My experience has left me wondering how this bag of beans got so many 5 star reviews. I have reached out to BATW and got no reply. I wish I never clicked on their Facebook ad and purchased so many beans! This experience is definitely making me hesitant to "explore" other roasters again and click on Facebook ads, I will stick with my core of favorite roasters going forward. Lesson learned.
I had a cup of an amazing brew in Antigua Guatemala. I said to the camarero “where is this from?” “Oh, a local coffee” I even thought of moving there. I had a cup of Pete’s Blend, and wow this is the coffee; here in Canada! Well I was close. Santa Clara was my final stop. For me the search was over when I discovered Santa Clara.
Taste the difference! This passed the real test, replaced our normal breakfast roast with this, and everyone Saud 'that's a great coffee'. When folks notice, unprompted, you know it's good.
Guatemala Santa Clara is the absolute best coffee I have ever had. I love it so much I won't buy any other kind. I never want to be without my 'Santa Clara' so I order 4 bags at a time.
If you want a great start to your morning ~ brew up a cup of Santa Clara!
My husband and I love this coffee. It is very smooth and it is the only coffee we use at home now. I hopeBean Around the World will keep this coffee, it is the best I ever tasted.
